MUKAAKA LEGACY SOCIETY

What is the Mukaaka Legacy Society?
The Mukaaka Legacy Society takes its name from the word Mukaaka, which means grandmother in Rukiga, the local language spoken in Southwest Uganda. Mukaakas are amazing women who opened up their homes and hearts to the orphaned children in their communities, even while they were living in extreme poverty themselves. Nyaka’s legacy society was named to honor their compassion and strength.

As a member of this society, you will be the friend who helps these courageous women build the future they envision for themselves, their grandchildren, and their communities.

You will give opportunity to the most vulnerable and underserved in rural Uganda. Because of you, future generations will have the tools and education they need to build better lives. Your legacy will save lives long past your lifetime.

How Will My Gift Be Recognized?
With your permission, we would like to acknowledge your gift publicly. We will include your name on the Nyaka website and in annual reports on our Mukaaka Legacy Society page. We will also add your name to the Mukaaka Legacy Wall in the administrative building of the Nyaka Vocational Secondary School located in Nyakagyezi, Uganda (pictured right). We will send you a photo of your name once your plaque is added to the wall, but we hope you will also plan a visit to see your name in person.

Legacy Gifts

Include Nyaka in Your Will or Trust
The simplest way to leave a legacy gift is through your will or trust. This can be done as a percentage of your estate, a residual gift after all other provisions have been made, or a contingency gift. Your attorney can use the sample language below to incorporate your gift into your planning document.

Specific Bequest
“I give, devise and bequeath the sum of $_______ to The Nyaka AIDS Orphans Project, P.O. Box 339, East Lansing, MI  48826, for its general charitable purposes. I instruct that all of my charitable gifts shall be made, to the extent possible, from property that constitutes ‘income in respect of a decedent’ as that term is defined in the Internal Revenue Code.”

Residuary Bequest
“After specific bequests have been fulfilled, I give, devise and bequeath all (or state a percentage) of the rest, residue and remainder of my estate, both real and personal, wherever situated, to The Nyaka AIDS Orphans Project, P.O. Box 339, East Lansing, MI  48826, for its general charitable purposes. I instruct that all of my charitable gifts shall be made, to the extent possible, from property that constitutes ‘income in respect of a decedent’ as that term is defined in the Internal Revenue Code.”
