Welcome to the Nyaka Poetry Project

The Nyaka Poetry Project is a collaborative project led by Dara Barnat, a Doctoral Student at Tel Aviv University, and Susan Nalugwa Kiguli, a professor and accomplished Ugandan poet. The goal of the project is to publish a collection of the Nyaka children's work. This way, their experiences can reach beyond Nyaka to the rest of their world.

Dara visited Nyaka in June-July of 2007 and did poetry writing workshops with the P-5 and P-6 students along with the Nyaka teachers. She collected about 150 poems and hopes to collect about 1,000 more. More details will be coming in the future. In the meantime, visit the links below to read student's poems.

"A Poem about Death" - Daphine Akampuziza

"A Poem about my Mother" - Makleen Ainembaizi
