Nyaka Programs
Volunteer and Internship Program
A teaching intern working one-on-one to help build English skills
The Volunteer Program has been an important component of the
Nyaka program since its beginning. 2008 has been our busiest year yet.
We have already had several groups volunteering in the past few months.
* The Sherwood Oaks Church from Bloomington, Indiana sent five volunteers
to work on road maintenance and other projects at Nyaka and Kutamba.
* College students from Prince Edward Island came and served as teaching
interns for the month of March.
* Volunteers came from Aspen, Colorado and helped with the groundbreaking
ceremony at Kutamba and also spent time teaching in the schools.
For students, there are endless opportunities to help build your experience through
participating as an intern with Nyaka both here in Michigan and in Uganda or both.
Majors include, but are not limited to the following:
* Education
* International Studies/Development
* Health Education (especially HIV/AIDS prevention)
* Non-profit management (here in East Lansing, Michigan)
* Public Relations/Journalism
* Nursing/Medicine
* Social Work
(Please note: All interns/volunteers are responsible for their travel expenses to and from Uganda)
